Please finish your cue cards tonight. Try to memorize your speech. Tomorrow (Friday) will be a dress rehearsal. You will be presenting in class next week starting on Monday. Students will be selected randomly.
Don’t forget to plan out your dramatic flair by 1) underlining words to read with emotion, 2) planning your dramatic pauses, and 3) planning your gestures.

Some students have been asking if they can work on their speeches at home.
The answer is yes and no. You can work on somethings at home: choosing a topic, brainstorming ideas, and organizing your ideas in your mind map.
Tomorrow (Thursday Apr 8), you will get one more lab period to work on your ideas before handing them in to be marked and approved. Once you hand in your mind map, everything else has to be done at school: writing your draft, revising your work, editing your errors, and then publishing your good copy. We will be writing our speeches in class next week.
Once your good copy has been handed in for marks, you will get a chance to take home your speech to practice and memorize at home. Part of our speech unit will include tips on practicing and delivering your speech.
If you would like to work on your mind map at home, here is what you need to do. Please note, you are not required to work on your speech at home. You are always welcome to come in for extra help during second recess. You can also take notes at home, save the information into a Google Doc and then copy/paste the information into your mind map at school.
Here are the steps to work on your SMART ideas mindmap at home. Make sure you have your parents/guardians permission to download and install programs before you begin.
- You can download a free trial version of SMART Ideas 5 from here. (The free software will only work for 30 days.) Please make sure you ask your parents/guardians before you download or install any software on their computer. http://www2.smarttech.com/st/en-US/Support/Downloads/SMARTIdeas/Windows/SmartIdeasv5Win.htm
- You should be able to connect to your LDHSS My Documents school account over the internet using your home computer with the following link: https://mydocs.ocdsb.ca. When the pop-up windows appear, click yes to trust MyDocs.OCDSB.ca. You will need to install a program called Whale IAG. When you click on “File Access” you should see your files on your school account. Now you should be able to open your Smart Ideas 5 file at home.

Scholastic Orders
Forty-five dollars in scholastic gift certificates were given out today to students. Every time you read 20 minutes, your name gets entered into a draw to win a five dollar gift certificate. If you didn’t have your reading log signed today, you need to come in during second recesses until your reading log is signed.
Scholastic orders are due on Friday if you’re placing a book order.
Term 2 Class Party
Sad news. Our term 2 class party was supposed to be the Thursday before March break, but unfortunately we had to change dates because of the science fair. We were supposed to have our class party this Thursday (Thu Mar 25) but unfortunately I have a workshop in the afternoon to go to.
So, when would you like to reschedule the class party? Mon Mar 29 or Thu Apr 1? (It has to be a day when we have a double period.)

Term 3 Reading Log handsouts were given out today. The tracking log starts on Mon Mar 8 and goes until the end of the school year. You do not have to read during the March Break, but those of you who do read, can simply count that as your reading homework for a different day.
I will be checking reading logs on Mon Mar 22 when you return from March Break. I will be checking to see if you have parent signatures up to Friday Mar 12.
You can download the Term 3 Reading Log here if you lost yours:
