The program follows the overall and specific expectations set by the Ontario curriculum.
Language:
- The language expectations in the Intermediate grades (Grades 7 and 8 ) are very similar and focus on the consolidation of students’ language knowledge, skills and strategies and their ability to use them independently and effectively. This year, your child’s literacy program focuses on the explicit instruction of reading and writing strategies as well as critical literacy skills to be applied to print and media texts. We will be exploring literacy through technology including the use of blogging, wikis, Google Docs/Apps, and podcasting.
Geography & History:
- Geography and History will both be reported on in at least 2 terms. History will be taught in the first half of the year, followed by Geography in the second half. Both subjects will focus on literacy strategies to decode and comprehend increasingly difficult expository texts.
Drama / Daily Physical Activity:
- Drama and DPA will be included in the literacy block once a cycle.
